Eureka
Eureka
An aging quail,
a wilted golden poppy,
fighting for survival.
The sun’s hard on the avocado,
no shelter for the three.
Petals fall.
Knew-some wouldn’t clean it up.
They’re all the same,
different wings of the same condor.
Golden trout in polluted water,
fighting to breathe.
Fires ravage the lands.
Left behind his shell,
the desert tortoise leaves.
The selfish grizzly,
hollow-bellied,
gorging
as the bumble bees’ stomachs rumble,
wanting more for their hard work—
at least a hive to come home to.
Snow-capped mountains
melt ICE for the natives.
Hunters’ traps are sniffed out,
aggression met with patience.
Lands once golden,
sun-basked with love—
it’ll take the entire ecosystem
to get back to what was.
